What We Want

What we're asking for...

We're asking the District Council to pause now so that:

  • the missing evidence can be compiled and published
  • cumulative impacts can be thoroughly assessed
  • alternatives not considered can be transparently explained
  • the cluster can be treated as a single settlement - which is how it will impact existing and new residents in real terms

This is not anti‑housing.

This is about getting the plan right.

How to get involved

Contacting your District Councillor

What you can say:

“I’m concerned about the scale and clustering of the 24,000 homes proposed for the District, 15,000 of them within a few miles of Houghton & Wyton. Before the Local Plan is fixed, I would like to see the missing evidence completed, including cumulative impact, infrastructure requirements and alternatives.

Please support a short pause at Regulation 18 so the plan is deliverable and stands up at Examination.”

Key points you may also want to include:

  • I am not antihousing
  • The scale of the collective developments  and the impact on existing and new residents' quality of life needs proper supporting evidence
  • Why are sites with better, existing road infrastructure not being considered - alongside A1M / new A14?
  • Other plans have failed where evidence was incomplete - Uttlesford, North Essex Authorities, Greater Norwich, Castle Point
  • As a resident, I only understood the scale once a map of all the developments was published by the Parish Council
  • A short pause now reduces longterm risk
